Billy F. Davis, 85, of Pampa, passed away July 4, 2019 in Pampa.
Celebration of life memorial services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at Calvary Baptist Church, with his grandson, Joshuah Ellis of Hub City Church of Christ in Lubbock, and Rev. Paul Beam, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Davis was born April 29, 1934 in Pampa to Hazel and Robert Davis. He was a lifelong resident of Pampa where he attended Pampa schools and graduated with the class of 1952. Billy was a great athlete where he excelled in football and Golden Gloves boxing through high school, college and the military. After college, he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps where he served during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he returned to Pampa where he would meet the love of his life, Aletha Smith. They were married on March 25, 1957 and she preceded him in death in 1991.
Billy went to work for Celanese in 1969, retiring in 1987. He was an amazing father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. When his first grandchild was born, he dubbed himself “PaDad,” a name he would answer to for the rest of his life. He began every day by talking to his “babies,” the numerous photos of kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids which decorated his house. As an avid sports fan he enjoyed playing golf, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys, and there was always a ballgame on his TV (usually on mute). What was most important to Billy was his family. He was his children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fan and always attended their sporting events. Billy’s generosity was second to none. There was never a member of his family who would ever do without. To say he will be missed is an understatement. To say that he will live on through his family is a certainty.
Survivors include three daughters, Jan Shaw and husband Charlie of Montgomery, Gay-Lynn Couts and husband Clint of Pampa, and Lisa Gill and husband Chris of Canadian; three sons, Scott Davis of Pampa, Craig Davis and wife Amy of Friendswood, and Tim Davis of White Deer; brother, Jerry Davis of Pampa; sister, Joyce Thomas and husband Bill of Calallen; 16 grandchildren, Dagan McCann, Caleb McCann, Zach McCann, Colton Shaw, Julianna Shaw, Joshuah Ellis and wife Kim, Sarah Simon and husband Zac, Lindsey McCormick and husband Bryan, Lauren Couts, Cody Bill Gill, Clay Gill, Caylee Gill, Brittney Davis, Darcy Davis, Ryne Davis and wife Nataly, and Tanner Davis; 13 great grandchildren, and other extended family.
