Bina Shaw

February 5, 1931 — April 8, 2025

Lubbock and formerly of Pampa

Bina Grace Brown Shaw was born February 5, 1931, in Merkel, TX to Alvin C and Annie Mae Brown. She passed from this life on April 8, 2025, in Lubbock, TX at the age of 94 years, two months and three days.

Celebration of life graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Memory Gardens Mausoleum with retired Nazarene pastor, Pastor Jimmye Cole, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 pm, Thursday at the funeral home.

As a child, she attended school in Merkel and graduated High School there in 1949. She fell in love with and married Frank Samuel Shaw on June 5th, 1949. To this union were born five children- Larry Wayne, Brenda Kay, Martha Ann, Michael Gene and Teresa Joy. For most of their marriage, Frank and Bina lived in Pampa, TX where the children grew up. When the children were older, she took a job at the Pampa Bra Factory, and later on at the M.E. Moses store, and then after that at the Pampa Daily Newspaper until she retired.

Bina was very good at sewing and cooking. She insisted that all of her children had an opportunity to learn to play the piano. Frank and Bina separated and divorced in 1974 after 25 years of marriage. Of all of her fine qualities, the one that stands out the most is that Bina consistently and faithfully took the family to the Church of the Nazarene every week. She loved children and served the Lord Jesus by caring for babies and young children in the church during Sunday school and worship services for many decades.

In the later years of her life, she moved to Lubbock, TX to be closer to her family. She reconnected with the first love of her life, Frank Shaw and they remarried, and they remained husband and wife until his death in 2023. They had been married a total of almost 35 years. She attended the Lubbock First Nazarene Church with her husband during these years and remained in Lubbock until her death. She had lived a full and productive life.

Bina was preceded in death by her father, Alvin C Brown; mother, Annie Mae Walker Brown; husband, Frank Samuel Shaw; five siblings, GW Brown, Estel Brown, Estelle Owens, Durrell Brown; and Burl Brown; a son, Larry Wayne Shaw; daughter, Teresa Joy Shaw Smith, a granddaughter, Christina Shaw; and a grandson, Michael E Shaw.
