Brenda JoAnn Roper, 62, of Skellytown and formerly of Amarillo, passed away January 31, 2021 in Borger.

A Memorial Graveside service will be held on 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo with Rev. Carter Pirtle of First Baptist Church of Skellytown, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Brenda was born on February 4, 1958 in Pampa to Peggy and Lott Lybrand. As a young girl her family moved to Amarillo where she would grow up and attend school. She met the love of her life, Doug Roper and they later married on August 27, 1973 in Amarillo. Doug was a career military man who served first in the Army and later retired from the Navy. Through Doug’s military career, he and Brenda traveled often, and they were stationed in San Diego, CA, Hawaii, and Washington D.C.. After his retirement, they moved back to Amarillo where they worked together at Open Road Mobility. Doug would later precede her in death in 2015.

Brenda was a former member of Irwin Road Baptist Church in Amarillo. Brenda moved to Skellytown to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Brenda liked to gamble and go to casinos whenever her schedule would allow it. But her family, especially her grandchildren, brought her the most joy. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother-in-law, Dale Brandstatt; and by a nephew, Kevin Lybrand.

Her survivors include two daughters, Jamie Roper of Pampa, and Julie Preston and husband Alvin of Skellytown; a son, Allan Roper and wife Tyra of Texoma, Oklahoma; a sister, Barbara Brandstatt of Amarillo; a brother, Brian Lybrand and wife Diana of Amarillo; and nine grandchildren, Shawn, Alyssa, Grady, Kileigh, Colton, Kinslee, Kaydee, Jace, and Lacey; and other extended family.
