Buster Grayson, 96, of Pampa, passed away at his home on January 9, 2025.
A memorial graveside will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Fairview Cemetery with his nephew, Rowdy France, officiating. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Buster was born on September 1, 1928, in Arbala, Texas to Carl and Lucille Grayson. He grew up and finished school in the Arbala and Sulphur Spring area. Buster enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at Fort Hood and in Germany. Following his service to his country, Buster returned to Texas and later moved to Pampa in 1955.
Buster had his first marriage, and, in this union, he had his son, Scott Grayson. He later found love and companionship again when he married Virginia Powell, and they married on December 19, 1969. Being married to Virginia, he gained another son, Scott Powell. Virginia would eventually precede him in death on May 2, 2018.
Buster was a long-time Celanese operator, and his career lasted almost 30 years before his retirement. He was a civic-minded man who gave his time and energy for the Boys Scouts of America, and he was very involved at the Optimist Club of Pampa where he volunteered often to help the organization in any way he could. Buster will be remembered as a talented man who was generous with his time and resources, always trying to help others in need. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a sister, Joyce; and three brothers, Otha, Carl, and Buddy.
Buster is survived by his son, Scott Grayson of Atlanta, GA; a stepson, Scott Powell of Kirkland, WA; a grandson, Gavin Greene of Venice, FL; two sisters, Linda Jones and husband Larry of Texas, and Nelba Armstrong of Emory, Texas; and other extended family members.
