Carol Hassler, 76, of Skellytown, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025 in Skellytown.
Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Jamisen Hancock, pastor of Briarwood Church, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Carol was born February 12, 1949 in Borger to Ben and Odell Hassler. She attended schools in White Deer. After high school she went on to earn her associate degree in criminal justice from Vernon Regional Junior College. She later obtained her LVN degree from Frank Phillips Community College. Carol worked as an LVN for many years, working in various nursing homes in the Texas panhandle. She retired in the late 90’s due to health issues. Carol moved around and eventually made Skellytown her home.
Carol was very crafty, making all types of arts and crafts and most recently she enjoyed making jewelry. Her health issues made it difficult to get out of the house, so she spent a lot of time watching tv. Playing games such as scrabble with her family brought her so much enjoyment; she did whatever it took to make sure she won, even if it meant “cheating” a bit. Her family joked that she was the only lefty in the family, and she was a cheater at all the games she played. Carol was a wonderful cook and baker; she loved to make meals for her family and all types of candy during the holidays. She loved her family.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kevin Walden; and two brothers, John Hassler and Tom Hassler.
Survivors include her daughter, Dana Whetstone and husband Marquis of Amarillo; two sons, Michael Walden and wife Sheila of Dayton and Marcus Walden and wife Kayla of Pampa; two sisters, Bertha Porter of Skellytown and Judy Bosley and husband Dennis of Hinton, Oklahoma; brother, Jim Hassler of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren, Jorden Camba, Marquis Hayden Whetstone, David Walden all of Amarillo, Codie Tinsley of Dayton, Leah Cormier of Albuquerque, Sydney Walsh and Faith Walden both of Houston, Jacob Walden, Garrett Walden, and Emma Walden all of Pampa; and 7 great grandchildren.
