Charles W. McGahen, 85, of Pampa, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, in Pampa.
Services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Dallas Stringer, former pastor, and Rick Pearson, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. McGahen was born Feb. 10, 1932 in Patterson, Arkansas to Charles R. and Lucille Tyer McGahen. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1943 and was a 1950 graduate of Pampa High School. He married Wilda Nichols on Jan. 6, 1951 at Calvary Baptist Church in Pampa. She preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1996. He later married Odessa Kidwell Ledbetter on April 15, 1998. She preceded him in death on Dec. 3, 2009.
Charles worked at Celanese for several years before going to work for Skelly, Getty, and Texaco, where he retired in 1994 after 28 years of service. He was a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years where he served as deacon chairman several times. He loved fishing, camping, travelling in his fifth wheel, and he loved the Dallas Cowboys. Charles was a dedicated family man. He was preceded in death by his parents, by a sister, Yvonne Phillips, and by a brother, Fran McGahen.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Cook and husband Randy of Weatherford; a son, Dicky McGahen and wife Karen of Pampa; two stepsons, Jammy Ledbetter and wife Sherri of Colorado and Terry Ledbetter and wife Dee Anna of Pampa; three granddaughters, Alisa Harris and husband Chris of Keller, Shelby Huff and Shealyn McGahen, both of Pampa; a grandson, Josh Cook and wife Christy of Denver, Colorado; and by two great granddaughters, Emma and Paige Cook, both of Denver.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 900 E. 23rd St., Pampa, TX 79065.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM Wednesday at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home.
