Chesley Columbus Johnston, 75, of Pampa, known to friends as “CJ,” passed away January 16, 2018 in Borger.
Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Lonnie Shelton, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
CJ was born December 10, 1942 in Dimmit to William Columbus and Pearl Mae Johnston. He moved to Hereford in 1959 to work for the Chevrolet House. In 1964, he went to work for Texas Department of Transportation, moving to Canyon in 1975 where he became one of the youngest superintendents for TXDOT in Randall County, retiring after 18 years of service. CJ then moved to Pampa where he became an independent Allstate Insurance agent for the next 18 years. He then opened his own independent agency, Gray County Insurance Agency. CJ had a love for music. He spent many weekends playing the guitar and fiddle with his friends.
CJ was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Harold Johnston and Don Johnston.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Johnston of the home; three sons, Sheldon Johnston, Shawn Johnston and wife Kim, and Trae Johnston and wife Shaunah, all of Amarillo; two step-daughters, Kim Havard and husband Rick of Prosper, and Vicci Johnston of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Skyler Johnston, Kaycee Cox, Lauren Kreusel, Kole Johnston, Brooklyn Johnston and Luke Johnston, all of Amarillo; three step-grandchildren, Katelyn and Caroline Havard, both of Prosper, and Sam Wood of Amarillo; and two great grandchildren, Emery Cox and Saylor Kreusel, both of Amarillo.Tuesday, January 23, 2018
