Clara Mae Jewett, 89, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Legacy Rehab and Living in Amarillo, her home for the last 6 years.

 

Services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor David Fennel, Clara’s nephew, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

 

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 PM on Monday, January 29, 2024, at the funeral home.


Clara was born on March 17, 1934, in Hollis, Oklahoma, to John Pink and Mary Florence Moldenhauer. She was raised 12 miles north of Hollis on the family farm with her brothers, Gordon, Clarence “Gube”, and her sister, Helen “Sis”.

 

After graduation, Clara moved to Amarillo where she met Earl Gene Jewett. They married on August 15, 1953. They moved to Pampa in 1968 when Gene started working for Cabot. The couple raised their children and retired in Pampa. They had been married for 54 years when Gene passed away on September 5, 2007.

 

Clara was a stay-at-home mom most of the time but worked for Marie Foundations and M.E. Moses. Later in life, she started babysitting. She babysat for the Thomas, Clay, Crain, Skinner, and Meyer families. Her passion was sewing, crocheting, and gardening. She made Kaye’s prom dress, Nancy’s wedding dress, many square dance dressed, and a suit for Gene and Chuck. She made many, many baby blankets with crochet ruffles. All her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have one of her creations.

 

She and Gene were members of Central Baptist Church and charter members of the Senior Couples Class.

 

Clara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene; brothers, Gordon Pringle and wife Loretta, Clarence “Gube” Moldenhauer and wife Lily; her in-laws, Charlie and Ollie Jewett; brothers-in-law, JC Jewett and CW Fennel; and grandson-in-law, Alexey Tevkun.

 

Survivors include three daughters, Darla Jewett of Canyon, Nancy Mosteller and husband James of Amarillo, and Kayelynn Blaylock and husband Jimmy of Luther, Oklahoma; son, Chuck Jewett and wife Samantha of Canyon; grandchildren, Sarah Hogue and husband Kris of Canyon, Bethney Tevkun of Amarillo, Jordan Eakin, Ethan Eakin, and Brody Blaylock, all of Luther, Oklahoma, Amanda Vanderburg and husband Dalton of Canyon, Wesley Traeder and partner Kyle Traeder of Wausau, Wisconsin, and Carlee Scott of Canyon; great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Kristian, Karter, and Jazmine Hogue, Esther Tevkun, Jocelynn, Peyton, and Arizona Eakin, Ava Vanderburg, and Baby Vanderburg due in July 2024; sister, Helen “Sis” Fennel of Amarillo; brother-in-law, Wayne Jewett and wife Beverly of Chandler, Texas; special cousin, Diane Johnson of Edmond, Oklahoma; and several other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

 

The family would like to thank Legacy Rehab and Living, High Plains Senior Care- Hospice, Unit 3 angels Stephanie, Odysa, Crystal, Lanie, Amanda, Erika, Xochilt, Gina, Betsy, and Tina, who have loved and cared for “Clare Bear” like their own and let her “be the boss”.
