Clarice C. Jones

Clarice C. Jones, 95, of Amarillo, died October 8, 2017 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor of First Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Jones was born January 4, 1922 in Pampa. She was a graduate of Pampa High School. Clarice married Lester A. Jones on September 9, 1943 in Alexandria, Virginia. They had been residents of Pampa until the early 1960’s, moving around and looking for the perfect place to live, eventually making their way to Amarillo in the late 1990’s. Lester preceded her in death on November 21, 2009. Clarice was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo, and a former member of First Baptist Church in Pampa. In her later years, she maintained her independence with exceptional support from neighbors and friends. Her niece said Clarice was a true lady. Survivors include a son, Jesse Jones of Newport Beach, California; a grandson, Mark Jones and wife Amanda of Fort Worth; two great grandchildren, Maxwell Aubrey Jones and Audrey Laine Jones, both of Fort Worth. Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, C. C. and Viola Gillis; two brothers, Jerry Gillis and B. J. Gillis; sister, Iris Britton; son, Howard Jones; and daughter, Judith Louise Jones. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:30 Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at the funeral home.
