Jane was born August 2, 1937 on the family farm in Texola to Robert and Lucy Mae Gipson. She graduated from Texola High School as the Valedictorian in 1955. On November 21, 1954, she married the love of her life, Joe Don Skinner. When he returned home from the military in the late 1950’s, they made their way to the Pampa community. Jane worked at Travis Elementary in the cafeteria while her three sons attended school there. She later went to work for the City of Pampa water department, retiring as a supervisor in 1996 after 20 plus years of service. She spent most weekends with her family traveling around to motorcycle races while they were growing up. She later took on the role of “Mema” and loved everything about it. She never missed an event or game of any of her children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren. Early on in her marriage, they attended Harrah Methodist Church where she served as the choir director. They later moved their membership to St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Jane was a member of the Opti-Mrs. Club and was named Opti-Mrs. of the year in 2001. Serving and giving was a part of Jane’s life, she always wanted to help others. Her advice was always given in a loving and positive way. Jane taught her family to treat others the way you would like to be treated.
