Curtis was born to Penny and Courtney Broaddus on February 2, 1958. He graduated from Miami High School in 1976, then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education and a master’s in Public Administration from Wayland Baptist University. Curtis wore many hats over the years. He began his adulthood as a welder, but soon discovered his passion for law enforcement; first working for the Department of Energy, then spending his last years serving in local law enforcement. He particularly sought justice for those who could not defend themselves, especially speaking up for young victims of violence.

However, his favorite hat of all was that of girl-dad. Curtis was blessed with not only a beautiful, kind, and loving wife, but five amazing, independent daughters, who he loved to talk about to everyone that asked. Curtis could be silly and loving, but also serious and firm. His smile and laugh were contagious and brought such joy to all who loved him. He loved horses, hunting, and his sweet little dog, Josie. He was a member of the Free Masons, Scottish Rite, and York Rite and a long-time member of First Baptist Church.

Curtis never met a stranger and was blessed with many friendships throughout the Texas Panhandle. He loved to catch up and fellowship with old friends especially over breakfast. His family particularly appreciates everyone who had to take, make or decipher his long, complicated order because we know patience was involved. If you know, you know.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Penny, his father, Courtney, and his two younger brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Felecia Broaddus of Pampa, and five daughters, Brooke Callen and husband Aaron of Fort Worth, TX, Holly Smith and husband Matthew of Torphins, Scotland, Kirby Ladyman and husband Eric of Anadarko, OK, Shelby Broaddus of Altus, OK, and Katelyn Velasquez of Fayetteville, NC.; as well as nine grandchildren, Dawson Callen and wife Erin, Sarah Smith, Laura Callen, Gideon Smith, Micah Smith, Skylar Ladyman, Ezekiel Smith, Raylee Ladyman, and Ridge Ladyman; and two great-grandchildren, Mia and Willa Callen. As well as a large extended family and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center in Amarillo Texas as Curtis worked hand in hand with them and believed in their mission. Donations can be made directly at https://bridgecac.org.
