Darell Luster

March 30, 1947 — September 19, 2023

White Deer

Darell Luster, 76, of White Deer, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 in Sanger.

Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, September 23, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Pampa with Rev. Dr. Jerry Lane, retired minister, officiating. Burial will follow in White Deer Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Darell was born in Wheeler on March 30, 1947 to William Mirt and Ethel LaVeta Luster. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1965. After graduation, Darell enlisted in the United States Army on August 1, 1966 and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1972.  He served as a Medical Corpsman with the 28th surgical hospital in Fort Bragg, NC. On October 1, 1966, he married Lyn Lee Fuller in Pampa. They celebrated 56 years of marriage before she passed away on October 12, 2022. Darell worked 20 years in the steel forge press department at IRI. His second career began in law enforcement in 2005, where he served as the White Deer City Marshal for 18 years. He earned his master’s Peace Officer certificate and EMT first responder certification.  Darell was committed to serving the community of White Deer. Darell loved animals and along with Lyn, rescued many and helped others to save their pets’ lives.  He loved his cars and going fast. Darell loved the outdoors and spent his free time on the Red River camping and fishing or in the mountains doing the same. He was passionate about Veterans, Law Enforcement and First responders and they were his family as well.  He would care for disabled Veterans and even took the steps to ensure that Veterans with no family had the proper Veteran’s burial. Darell took many trips with the boy scouts with Chris and helped organize trips. He loved spending time with Christyn helping her with college and telling her stories about law enforcement. He was very proud of her degree. Darell loved his grandson, Emmett and loved being silly with him.

The family would like to thank his friends of White Deer and surrounding areas for all the calls, text, cards and especially the visits to Sanger to see Darell.  They meant a lot to him, and he appreciated everyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Larry Neal Luster.

Darell is survived by his son, Christopher Luster and wife Ida “Rainey”; daughter, Christyn; granddaughter, Brooke Luster; great grandchildren, Emmett Christian Miranda and Zamora Dawnielle Childress; brother, David Luster; and numerous nieces and nephews. Darell is also survived by his best friend and "partner in crime", Pat Nash; they have been friends since the first grade.
