David "Brett" Hall

David “Brett” Hall, 62, of Miami, passed away on March 3, 2025, in Amarillo, surrounded by loved ones.

Services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, March 7, 2025, at the Miami Methodist Church of Miami, with Rev. Josh Reeves, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the Roberts County Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Brett will be available for viewing from 2:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, and from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm, on Thursday at the funeral home. 

Brett was born on September 21, 1962, in Pampa, to Jack and Sharron Hall. He grew up and graduated in the Houston area. While growing up in Houston, Brett was often flown by his mother in her two-seat J3 Cub airplane back to the panhandle to visit his family. After high school, he attended junior college before transferring to Texas Tech where he would earn a master’s degree in Ag Economics. Upon completion of his master’s degree, he moved back to Miami to manage the Red Deer Creek Ranch (his family’s ranch) until his passing.

In 1991, he married Christie Morlock, and they would have their two sons, Dylan and Chase. They would part in 2011 but always stayed amicable and supportive of their children. Brett would find companionship again when he married his longtime friend, Sonia Rivera, in 2024. 

Anybody who knew Brett will tell you he was ornery. Despite that, he had a heart of gold and cared a great deal about his community and the people in it. Brett provided two generations of local Texans with the opportunity to learn and work on the ranch, usually middle or high school students starting their first job. He supported education further by serving as school board president and providing scholarship opportunities to Miami ISD graduates during the early 2000’s. Even once he was no longer directly involved with the school, Brett was always a big sponsor of school functions and promoted Miami Warrior spirit.

He found an immense amount of joy and freedom riding motorcycles, whether it was long enduro motorcycle trips or just around the ranch. Brett also had a passion for skiing when he was younger, and he loved to ski black diamonds in both New Mexico and Colorado whenever he could. Listening to music and taking friends and family to shows, especially rock and roll concerts, were two of Brett’s favorite pastimes.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Brett is survived by his wife, Sonia Hall of the home; two sons, Dylan Hall of Pampa, and Chase Hall of Lubbock; half-brother, David Marvin Hall and wife Heather of Pampa; half-sister, Caitlyn Thornberry and husband Chase of Amarillo; stepmother, Audrey Hall of Amarillo; two stepsisters, Stephanie Graham of Amarillo, and Stacy Dalton and husband John of Austin; and other extended family.
