David W. Dixon, 87, of Pampa, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024 in Amarillo.
Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, October 17, 2024 at First Methodist Church with Rev. Jarrod Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at the funeral home from 6:00-7:30 PM.
David was born on September 24, 1937 in Lampasas County to Wilford and Otha Dixon. After high school, David enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served faithfully for four years. In May of 1960, he was honorably discharged. On December 29, 1975, he married Billie Mae Long. They celebrated 30 years of marriage before she passed away in 2005.
David worked for Central Freight Lines for over 34 years, as a truck driver, before he retired. He drove over 4,000,000 safe miles. He was longtime member of First Methodist Church in Pampa.
Over the years, he enjoyed tinkering with cars. He also had a passion for driving his hot rod cars and boats fast. David loved the adrenaline rush as the cars and boats went faster. He also loved good food, all types, either home cooked or nice cuisine from a restaurant. He loved watching ME TV. He also loved driving his zero turn Lawn mower as a gentleman farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilford Dixon and Otha Dixon Hood; brother, Dorsey Dixon; wife, Billie Mae Long Dixon; daughter, Penni Long Pfitzner; and son, Thomas Long.
Survivors include his son, Robert “Bob” Long and wife DeAnn of Amarillo; son-in law, Scott Pfitzner of Pampa; grandchildren, Monika Pfitzner Patin and husband Tim of Thorndale, TX, Jarren Long and wife Anna of Bismark, North Dakota, Charles Long of Amarillo, Allison Pfitzner Beddo and husband Tyler of Shawnee, OK, Karl Pfitzner of Pflugerville, TX, and Elizabeth Long Card and husband Harrison of Dallas; great grandchildren, Lyla, Lilly, Penelope, Sadie, Addison and Hayden.
