David Swires, 80, of Pampa, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Amarillo.
Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ with Keith Feerer, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
David was born November 12, 1937 to Archie and Anna Swires in Canadian. He was a 1959 graduate of Canadian High School. He married Gloria Gaines on December 25, 1960. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 until his discharge in 1962. They moved to Pampa in 1966 when he started working at Cabot Corp. He held many positions in his 38 years, retiring in 2004. He was a member at Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ. He was a cowboy at heart who loved to camp, fish and hunt. He was past president of Gray County Association for intellectual disabilities. He was very dedicated to the Special Olympics where he coached and helped any where he was needed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Rick Swires in 1998, a sister Joyce Mathews, and 3 brothers, Raymond Swires, Allen Swires, and Stanley Swires.
David is survived by his wife Gloria of the home; one son, Randy Swires of Pampa. 1 sister, Sella Holt of Amarillo; 3 brothers, Ernest Swires and wife Trudy of Amarillo, Bill Swires and wife Kathleen of Eugene, OR and Jerry Swires of Alan Reed, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Gray County Association for the Intellectually Disabled, P.O. Box 885, Pampa, TX 79066.
The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 PM Friday, February 16, 2018, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
