Don Carpenter, 85, of Pampa passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 in Pampa.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor at First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Don was born on March 25, 1934 in Lefors to Frank and Ruby Steddum Carpenter. He grew up in Skellytown and graduated from White Deer High School. Don married Carol Combs on September 26, 1953 in Skellytown. She passed away on November 20, 2007. He worked at Halliburton and Dorchester and in 1968 he went to work at Cabot Corp. Don retired in 2001 after 33 years of service. He was very active with the Pampa Optimist Youth Club, coaching the Colts for 27 years. He was a 32nd degree mason with Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 A.F. & A.M. Don loved carving themed canes and giving them to special friends. He also loved spending time with family and friends, eating good food, cooking and smoking meats and was known for his great BBQ sauce.
He is survived by four children, Donna Porter and husband Bud of Duncan, Oklahoma, Rick Carpenter and wife Connie of Lovington, New Mexico, Cathey Bell of Pampa and Randy Carpenter of Arlington; 14 grandchildren, Tammy Pulse and husband Mark, Phil Sexton and wife Michelle, Kyle Porter and wife Sarah, Katie Morrow and husband Dakota, Troy Don Carpenter and wife Sylvia, Britton Carpenter and wife Mindy, Chase Carpenter and wife Kendra, Halley Roberson and husband Dustin, Maurey Bell Thomas and husband Phil, Matt Bell and wife Brittany, Chandler Carpenter, Maurley Carpenter, Kendall Carpenter, Landry Carpenter; 31 great grandchildren; a cousin, Pat Kindle of Pampa and Special Friend, Elouise Hughes of Pampa.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 621, Pampa, TX 79066.
Family visitation will be Monday, March 9, 2020 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home.
