Donnie Ellison

Donnie Ellison, 85, of Stratford, died September 2, 2017 in Stratford. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Friday, September 8, 2017, at Stratford Cemetery, and memorial services will be 11:00 AM Friday at First Baptist Church in Stratford, with Rev. Ronald Whitt, pastor, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Ellison was born April 23, 1932 in Sherman County and was a 1951 graduate of Stratford High School. He married Martha Crabtree on June 3, 1953 in Stratford. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving 2 years in Germany. Donnie lived in Sherman County his entire life. He farmed and ranched in the Spurlock community before moving to Stratford. He was a member of the American Legion and the First Baptist Church where he enjoyed being involved in the food bank ministry. Donnie was crowned the Stratford Days Old Timers King for 2012. He loved playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren. In his younger years, Donnie loved to go camping. He loved his family and will be dearly missed. Survivors include his wife, Martha of the home; two daughters, Glenanna Craig of Amarillo, and Verlie Norris and husband Larry of Stratford; a son, Ernie Ellison and wife Sheryl of Dumas; Glenanna’s children, Chris Craig and wife Lyndsie of Plainview and their children Caleb, Hanna, Lily and Nathan, and Bethany Callaway and husband Wade of Gruver, and their children, Creed, Keegan, Caris and Kinley; Verlie’s children, Shannon Norris and wife Kate of Aledo and their children Patrick and Liza, Katie Nutt and husband Stephen of Marshfield, Missouri and their children Rylie and Morgan, and Laura Rogers and husband Jason of Stratford, their children, Alexis, Kennedy, Slade Rogers and wife Jana, Lauren Ramon and husband Joe, and their children Trace and Lincoln; Ernie’s children, Brenna Morgan and husband Wayland of Champaign, Illinois, and Nathan Ellison of Kingston, Oklahoma; a sister, Billie Ann Stewart of Pampa and an extensive extended family. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Oma “Whitey” and Alice Ellison, and a granddaughter, Jill Ellison.
