Doris Lewis Goad, 81, of Pampa, passed away March 13, 2018 in Amarillo.
Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, March 19, 2018 at Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Pampa. Memorial services will be 3:00 PM Monday, at First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo, with Mr. Paul Fredericksen, retired minister of First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Goad was born June 11, 1936 in Wellington, to W. C. and Mayme Lewis. She graduated from Wellington High School and moved to Pampa in 1954. Doris married Evart Carrol Goad in 1957. She began teaching piano lessons in Pampa in 1962, teaching up until February of 2018 before she became ill, and taught organ and piano to multiple generations of families. Doris served as church organist at Highland Baptist Church and most recently at First Presbyterian Church, both of Pampa, for more than 43 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as elder and various other roles throughout the years. She was a member of Top of Texas Republican Women. Doris loved her family, music, cooking, sewing, needlepoint and gardening, and taking care of her cats. Most importantly, she loved her Lord Jesus. It was her faith that kept her smiling through her 11 year battle with cancer, and even through her struggles, she was always cheerful.
Survivors include a daughter, Melanie Cartee and husband Brian of San Antonio; two sons, Norman Goad and wife Diana of Amarillo, and Marvin Goad of Austin; two sisters, Pat Terry of Pampa, and Mildred Cummins and husband Jerry of Hollis, Oklahoma; three brothers, Herschel “Bud” Lewis of Pampa, Ted Lewis and wife Earlene of Odessa, and Dan Lewis and wife Sheila of Hollis, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Lauren Cartee and Ben Cartee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
