Maurine Helfer, 79, of Lefors, passed away Friday, March 12, 2021 in Amarillo.
Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Lewis Ellis, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Heights Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Helfer was born June 10, 1941 in Amarillo to Ross and Lucille Lovelady. Maurine graduated from Palo Duro High School. She worked for the City of Amarillo, Walmart, and Dr. Schaeffer’s office. Maurine married Jim Helfer in March of 1979. He preceded her in death in 2008. Maurine loved spending time with her family, collecting almost anything, and Robert Mirabel's music. She especially enjoyed collecting and restoring antique furniture. Maurine had a passion for Indian art and always enjoyed going to the Taos Pueblo to watch and listen to the annual Pow Wow.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shawn Heckathorn; a son, Shannon Johnson; and a grandson, Andrew Laury.
Maurine is survived by two daughters, Michelle Irwin and husband Casey of Amarillo and Mecca McBee and husband Daron of Lefors; a son, Shane Johnson and wife Anna of Van Vleck; two sisters, Vickie Harris of Amarillo and Lisa Davis of Aubrey; a brother, Larry Ashby and wife Jodi of Pflugerville; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
