Doris Huffhines, 91, of Pampa, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 5, 2021 at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Pastor Jimmye Cole, retired Nazarene minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Doris was born June 16, 1929 in Rogers, Arkansas to Vernon and Vera Bowman Exline. Doris graduated from Pampa High School in 1947. While in high school, she was involved in Glee Club, A Cappella Choir, and was a library assistant.
She met the love of her life, Oliver Huffhines, at the Pampa News Stand. They were married on June 3, 1949 in Pampa. They spent 68 wonderful years building a life they loved. Together they had a family of four children who were their pride and joy. Oliver went to his heavenly reward on December 14, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her parents and only sister, Naomi Pishioneri.
Doris worked at the Pampa News and the Post Office, as well as spent 22 years helping many people as a Social Security Service Representative.
During her retirement she enjoyed many activities including gardening, sewing, crafting, and traveling. She also enjoyed camping, especially taking her grandchildren along. She and Oliver built the family cabin in Colorado in 1984. While in the mountains, they enjoyed many years of hiking, the outdoors, sight-seeing, riding motorcycles and four wheelers, exploring and just spending time with their family and friends. They met many new friends along the way in the mountains who then became dear friends to them as well. They never met a stranger.
Doris was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Pampa where she served with the ladies ministry, missions, sang in the choir and a special quartet with Oliver and their dear friends, and helped out anywhere she was needed. She was the epitome of a true servant.
Doris is survived by three daughters, Kathy Baskett and husband Harvey of Amarillo, Debbie Menge and husband Dave of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Laurie Webster and husband Mark of Amarillo; a son Steve Huffhines of Pampa; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Baskett and wife Allison of Amarillo, Josh Baskett and wife Mindy of Edmond, Oklahoma, Aaron Webster and wife Karlee of Centerton, Arkansas, Stephanie Bennett and husband Matthew of Amarillo, Jared Webster and wife Kelsi of Amarillo, Lisa Menge and husband Adam Bauer of Hazard, Kentucky, Ben Menge and wife Sarah of Denver, Colorado, and Jennifer Huffhines of Edmond, Oklahoma; 13 great-grandchildren, Madison, Makenzie, Parker, Knox, Evie, Marq, Brody, Payton, Brecken, Molly, Emery, Ahvair and Maeva; one niece, Cynthia Greco and husband Pete of Elwood City, PA and one great niece Lisa Greco of Elwood City, PA.
