Doris Marie Smith, 90, of Lakeway and formerly of Pampa, passed away, January 19, 2021 in Lakeway.
Celebration of Life memorial services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Byron Williamson, of First Baptist Church, officiating. Inurnment will follow at Miami Cemetery and Doris will be laid to rest by her husband Robert “Bob” Smith and son, Brent Smith. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
As per the family, masks are required for Doris’ service.
Doris was born to Joseph Henry and Lola OD Spoonemore in Pampa.
She attended school in Pampa and later graduated from Pampa High School in 1947. After high school Doris went to work for the Pampa Telephone Company. She later married Robert Turner Smith on June 28, 1951 and they had two children, Brent Dwayne Smith and Brenda Dawn Smith (Booth). Bob would later precede her in death on January 12, 2013.
Doris was an active member of the Pampa Rotary Club for over 20 years and received the distinguished Paul Harris Fellow Award in 2004. She was also an active member of the First Christian Church, Luncheon Bunch, and the Twentieth Century Study Club.
She started Creative Catering in 1976 as she enjoyed hosting and helping others host weddings and special events. Doris was a receptionist at the Laycock Clinic and worked at the Pampa School District. Doris moved to Austin in 2013 to be closer to family and she remained highly active until her passing.
She will be remembered as a caring and compassionate person who was sensitive to the needs of those around her. Her family, especially her grandchildren, brought her the most pride and joy and she treasured being their “Nana”. Doris will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years; her sister, Myrtle Knight of Lawrenceville, GA; and by her son, Brent Dwayne Smith of Austin; and by her parents.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Booth and husband Jim of Austin; two grandchildren, James Garrett Booth, and Lauren McKinley Booth, both of Austin; by a sister, Mary Hensley and husband Bill of Sedalia, MO; and other extended family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Arbor Terrace Lakeway and to Valerian Hospice for their compassionate care.
