Dorothy Faye Cox Gallimore, 92, formerly of Pampa, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 in Amarillo.
Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Ricky Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Dorothy was born November 2, 1925 in Megargel, Texas to Herbert Cox and Blanche Reger. She lived in Megargel before moving to Kellerville and Lefors area, attending schools in Kellerville, McLean, and graduating from Lefors High School in 1943. She married E.C. Fulton in April of 1943, after the war, they lived a short time in California and later moved to Stinnett, and Pampa in 1956. E.C. passed away in November in 1966.
In September 1970, Dorothy married Lewis Gallimore, and he passed away in July of 2003. They enjoyed traveling and living in Aransas Pass in the winter months, where they became fisherman in the bays of the Gulf of Mexico. They would spend every winter in south Texas enjoying the warm weather.
Dorothy’s dream was to work for Bell Telephone and answer the switchboard. She applied to work there, but was told she was too short and she could not reach the plugs at the top of the switchboard. In 1960 her dream came true, she opened Pampa Answering Service at 111 S. Ballard with handful of customers. She later moved to 641 N. Hobart and changed the name to Pampa Communications, Inc. The business became a big success, and became a three generation operation with her daughter, Beverly Snider, and granddaughter Pam Martin. They continued to operate until 2008.
Dorothy spent her last years in, Comfort Care Cottage, in Amarillo. A special thank you to her caregivers; especially Jackie Salinas, who has been by Dorothy’s side for 3 years and 5 months on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays. She was blessed to have been where she had 24 hour care and love. Thanks to Brenda Christy, owner of Comfort Care, for such a special place. Kindred Hospice was a blessing during her last few years as she suffered from dementia.
Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Snider and husband Jewell of Pampa; two granddaughters, Pam Martin and Angela Martin both of Pampa; 6 great grandchildren, Roper Barr and wife Courtney of Royse City, RoDee Barr and Elena of Dumas, Brenda Givens of Amarillo, Rylan Hathcoat of Pampa, Aidon Fennell of Amarillo and Zane Fennell Pampa; a great great granddaughter, Memphis of Royse City; two special nephews, D.D. Lofton and wife Kerry and Kenneth Cox and wife Judy all of Pampa.
Dorothy was preceded in death by parents; two brothers, Kenneth Cox and Charlie Cox; and a sister, Helen McDonald; two nephews, Johnny Lofton and David Cox.
