Earl Smith, 84, of Pampa, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 in Pampa.
Services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Carmichael Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Mike Watson, of Calvary Baptist Church in Dumas, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Earl was born on October 12, 1937 in Pampa to Leo Smith and Marie Tinsley Smith. Earl graduated from Pampa High School in 1956 and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Matthews, on November 9, 1956. They moved to Lubbock where Earl was working on his bachelor's degree.
Upon graduating from Texas Tech University, he moved his family to Pampa to work on the family farm with his grandfather, Roy Tinsley. He then started working on his Electrical Journeyman Electrician license which he held until his death. Earl was proud to work his farm for 60 years. Earl and daughter Dana were honored on October 30, 2019 at the State Capital Building in Austin at the Family Land Heritage Program for the land being in the family for over 100 years.
When Earl was not working the farm or volunteering his many talents in his community, he was fishing. Earl especially loved fishing and improving his lake in Shamrock. This lake was the apple of his eye. Earl volunteered for many years at Good Samaritan Christian Services in Pampa. He also was an avid blood donor, where he gave over eight gallons of blood.
Earl was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Jean Smith; his parents; his son, Donald Earl Smith; and his sister Betty Lou Smith Love.
Earl is survived by his daughter, Dana Holland and husband Joe of Breckenridge, Colorado and Pampa; two grandchildren, Major Dr. Benjamin Holland and wife Christina of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; BradyJo McPheeters and husband, Scotty of Maui, Hawaii; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
