Edith Maxine Malone, 87, formerly of White Deer, TX, went home to be with the Lord on October 19, 2024, at a hospital in Temple, TX, with family present.
Memorial graveside services for Maxine will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Pampa, in the spring. Local arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Maxine was born on March 22, 1937, in Many, Louisiana, to Henry and Easter Gentry. As a young child, she grew up in Mena, Arkansas, where her father worked at a sawmill. The family then moved to Skellytown, TX, where she met Graley Malone. She would always say, "he was the best-looking man she had ever seen." They married on January 26, 1953.
Maxine followed Graley throughout his military career, living in San Diego, CA, and Limestone, Maine. They returned to Texas after he left the military and made their home in the panhandle, living in Pampa, Stinnett, back to Pampa, and finally settling in White Deer.
Maxine attended Clarendon College and received her associate’s degree in clerical studies. She was employed at the Coronado Hospital for several years, then at the Jordan Unit prison, both in Pampa. Maxine made it a priority to take care of her family, tending to her disabled daughter, Julie, for over 30 years and then her son, Scott, as he battled cancer. Maxine had a passion for cooking, and no one left her table hungry. She had a servant's heart and she and her sister, Elouise, were quick to volunteer to provide meals through their church for those in need. Her sense of humor was contagious, and she always had a smile and a kind word for everyone she met.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Graley Malone, in 2005; son, Scott in 2006; and daughter, Julie Brewer in 2008. Her siblings, Oather Lee "Red" Gentry, Marjorie Cain, Lewis Gentry, and Elouise Hughes, as well as her parents, have also preceded her in death.
Maxine is survived by her son, Randy Malone of White Deer, TX; daughter-in-law, Brenda Malone and husband David Thill of Teague, TX; four granddaughters; Heather Terrell and husband Shane of Lake Jackson, TX; Hilary Malone and Mario Dinatale of Clinton Township, MI, Holly Rodriguez and husband Christopher of Gatesville, TX, and Rachel Malone of Amarillo, TX; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob Rodriguez and wife Hailey, Kylie Rodriguez, Ava Rodriguez, Fallon Terrell, Jackson Terrell, Devin Malone, and Dharma Malone; and one great-great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Rodriguez.
