Edward “Ed” Garvin, 47, of Pampa, formerly of Amarillo, passed away October 29, 2017 in Amarillo. Celebration of Life services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Briarwood Church with Rev. Lynn Hancock, pastor, and Minister Lonny Robbins, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Garvin was born June 28, 1970 in San Bernardino, California. His father was in the Air Force, so he had the opportunity to live in various places, including Germany, Maryland and would eventually relocate to Amarillo where he would attend school and graduate from Amarillo High School. After high school he was awarded an athletic scholarship to play soccer at Central Christian College in McPherson, Kansas. Later, Ed would transfer to West Texas State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in education. He would meet the love of his life, Crystal Chambers, in 1991 while they worked together at the YMCA, and they married on August 15, 1992 in Amarillo. Ed had a big heart for kids and students and his career in education and coaching spanned several communities, working in Dimmitt in speech and theater, and then to Marshall where he coached soccer and football, and eventually moved to Pampa in 2007 where he was the head swim coach and assistant girls soccer coach. When Ed wasn’t educating and coaching he was helping with Boy Scouts. He was deeply invested in the Scouts where he was an Eagle Scout and a troop leader for Troop 404. He was a former member of Trinity Fellowship Church of Pampa and a current member of Briarwood Church of Pampa. Ed was a man of many talents. He had a great voice where he helped in several choirs and wrote his own music, but he also had a comedic side to him; he participated in Christian Comedy and one time opened for comedian Jeff Dunham early in Jeff’s career. When Ed wasn’t coaching or helping others, he loved camping and being in the outdoors with his family. While Ed was liked by many people and students, he was greatly loved for being a loving, caring, and supportive husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle, and friend and he will be missed dearly.
