E.E. “Mac” McDowell, 97, of Pampa, passed away on May 30, 2020 in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 5, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor of First Baptist Church, and Ron Fernuik officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. McDowell was born November 11, 1922 in White Oak Borough, Pennsylvania. After graduating technical high school in 1940, he received employment at Laboratories of Firth Sterling Corp. He went to serve in World War II in the Air Corp and artillery combat units in the European Mediterranean Theatre. When the war ended, he returned to the Laboratories and college. Over the next 40 years, he was employed as a supervisor and management of chemical, metallurgical, production, quality control, and technical sales and service for several major corporations; including US Steel, Westinghouse Atomic Power Research, and Cabot Corp. Machinery Division. He retired from Cabot.
He was a member of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers, American Institute of Iron and Steel Engineers, American Society for Testing and Materials, American Society of Professional Consultants, American Defense Preparedness Association, and served as past president of the Panhandle Chapter. He also served on the Pampa Chamber of Commerce board for several years, and was chairman of the Active Aviation Committee, and Pampa Industrial Foundation.
He belonged to the McKeesport-Duquesne Masonic Lodge of Pennsylvania, The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J. Valley of Lubbock, Amarillo Khiva Shrine, Borger Commandery #96 Knights of Templar of Texas, Borger 354, R&M and Borger 437, R.A.M. and was past DeMolay Chapter Advisor. Mac also was a member of the Everymans’ Sunday School class at First Baptist Church.
Survivors included his son, James E. McDowell of Brenham; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Lynn Pastories and a son, Jay E McDowell.
