Emily Phoebie Lancaster Washington

Emily Phoebie Lancaster Washington, 88, of Pampa, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2019 in Pampa.

Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, November 25, 2019 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Craig Albracht, campus pastor of Hillside Christian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Emily was born on April 11, 1931 to parents, Aubrey Franklin Lancaster and Lottie Cecil Seitz Lancaster in a small farmhouse close to Mobeetie. At 3 weeks of age, her father died from a ruptured appendix, leaving her mother to raise 3 small kids. She graduated from Pampa High School in 1948 and married Billy Gene Washington of Pampa, on March 18, 1949.

Emily worked as a telephone operator upon high school graduation, where she made many lifetime friends, that continues today. Emily worked at many doctors offices during her lifetime, then settled at Cabot Corp, attaining position of Executive Secretary to the head of the Safety Department in Pampa, and retiring from Cabot. She was a member of First Christian Church until 1975, moving to Bible Church of Pampa until 2012, and returning in 2012 to First Christian Church/Hillside Christian Church, Pampa Campus, where she has finished out her journey.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 65 years, Billy Gene Washington in 2014; a son, Terry Gene Washington in 2004; mother, Lottie Cecil Seitz Lancaster Reynolds; father, Aubrey Franklin Lancaster; step-father, Lester Reynolds; brothers, J. A. Lancaster, James M. Lancaster and Cecil L. Reynolds; sister, Yvonne E. Reynolds Cannon; and numerous grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins; and in-laws, James and Mittie Washington; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law of the Washington Family.

Emily is survived by her daughter, Sherry E. Washington Watson and husband Alvin Deon Watson of Pampa; her son, Tommy W. Washington and wife Tracy M. Cox Washington of Pampa; 5 grandchildren, Michelle D. Watson of Canyon, Ryan F. Watson and wife Rachel Zeck Watson of Virginia, Angela Washington Walker and husband Jimmy Walker of Texas, Camron W. Washington of Pampa, and Nathan J. Washington of Pampa; one great-grandson, Lincoln William Watson of Virginia; her sister, Julia Sue Reynolds Bond of Texas; a sister-in-law, Ola Mae Lancaster of Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with many lifelong friends.

Our thanks go to all the wonderful people at Pampa Nursing Home, who have made Mom’s life this past year so easy for her and for the family. Interim Health Care has been there for her the last few months with Hospice stepping in and making her life even more comfortable. Thank you from all the family.
