Fred William Martin, Jr., 92, of Pampa, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022 in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with John Curry, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Fred was born on August 22, 1929 in Gillett, Arkansas to Fred William Martin, Sr. and Virginia Marie Hesser Martin. He attended school in Gillett until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at 16 years old. Fred proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1948. He moved to Pampa in 1950 where he worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for almost 42 years. Fred married Lynda Ann Waggoner on June 2, 1952 in Pampa. She preceded him in death in 2017. Fred was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church. He was also a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the CWA Local 6128, and an instructor with Red Cross. Fred enjoyed restoring classic cars and showing them off at car shows. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Fred was always willing to help anyone in need without ever wanting anything in return. He was truly a kind and selfless man.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Martin, Sr. and Virginia Hesser Martin; his wife, Lynda Ann Waggoner Martin; two sisters, Dorothy Faye Martin Dixon and Sheila JoAnn Martin Johnson; half-sister, Madeliene Kay Martin Creasey; half-brother, Thomas "Tommy" Herbert Martin; and one niece, Carole Sue Dixon Berry.
He is survived by his daughter, Dana Kay Martin Porter and husband Jack of Perryton; his son, Fred Scott Martin and fiancée Jill Nosbich of Brighton, Colorado; and three grandchildren, Ryan Scott Martin of Hawaii, Matthew Brenton Porter and fiancée Dr. Frances Cobb of Dallas; and Ashley Katherine Martin of Colorado.
