Freida N. Moran Sturgill, 87, of Goodyear, Arizona passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in Surprise, Arizona.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Brother Gary Riley, pastor at Westlake Chapel in Possum Kingdom, officiating. Inurnment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
There will be a reception immediately following the service next door to the funeral home at The Harbor Community Event Center.
Freida was born on May 19, 1937, in Pep, New Mexico to Earl Lee and Geneva Louise Page Moran. She married Richard Franklin Sturgill on May 7, 1955, in Pueblo, Colorado. They moved to Skellytown in 1975 where they became active members of the community. Freida worked as the secretary at the First Baptist Church of Skellytown until her retirement. She was also a member of the Pampa Women’s Bowling Association for 15 years and a member of the Skellytown Parks Committee.
They moved to Possum Kingdom in 1995 and became members of the Westlake Chapel at Possum Kingdom Lake. In 1997, Richard passed away after nearly 42 years of marriage. Freida enjoyed bowling and participating in activities at church and also playing cards and dominoes with anyone brave enough to sit down at a table to play against her. Freida’s greatest love was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. During the last few years of her life, Freida lived with her granddaughter, Dusty and her family, in Goodyear, Arizona. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, Nanny, Great Grandmother, and friend.
Freida was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Franklin Sturgill; her parents, Earl and Geneva Moran; two children, Veronica Cook and Ricky Sturgill; one grandson, Devin Sturgill; one great-grandson, JeKai Johnson; and two sisters, Earlene Bradford and Freddie Moran.
Freida is survived by her two sons, Richard Sturgill and Bruce Sturgill; two brothers, James Moran and Billy Moran; one sister, Essie Mae Burt; 9 grandchildren, Kayci Cook, Dusty Cook, Laramie Cook, Jonathan Sturgill, Nicole Sturgill, Kayla Sturgill, Jessica Jennings, Sarah Camp, and Emily Camp; 9 great-grandchildren, Travis Sturgill, DeShay Johnson, Jr., McKenna Mitchell, Jerrell Johnson, Jheriko Johnson, JyRon Johnson, JaKaiya Johnson, Ryder Jennings, and Beau Jennings.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to Westlake Chapel at Possum Kingdom or The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, as these organizations were near and dear to Freida’s heart.
