Gail Martin

August 6, 1935 — February 15, 2020

Gail Evelyn Martin, 84, of Webb City, Missouri and former of Pampa, Texas, passed away February 15, 2020 in Webb City.

Services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, Feb 18, 2020 at Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Pampa, with Pastor Paul Nachtigall, of Highland Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating.  Entombment will follow under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.

Gail Evelyn Martin was born Aug 6, 1935 in Victoria, Texas to Gregorio and Julia Zafereo. She was the 12th born of 13 children.  She married William H. Martin, Jr. on December 1, 1954 in Victoria.  They resided in Liberal, Kansas where she was a housewife and helped operate their family businesses, Martin Painting and U-Pump-It Convenience Store.  In 1996, Gail moved to Pampa where she and Bill owned and operated The Cigarette Store for 11 years.  She was a member of Bethel Church of God and for 21 years led the Sunday morning worship service, taught Sunday school, and sang in the church choir.  Gail was an avid stock car fan with her favorite drivers being Dwight Leatherman, Terry Smith, and Rick Taylor all of whom she considered family.  She also liked to read Danielle Steele books, do crossword puzzle books, spend time with family, and watch basketball.  She was a loyal Oklahoma City Thunder fan until Russell Westbrook was traded.  She then became a Houston Rockets fan.  She would watch basketball for hours and could tell you about almost any team in the NBA.  She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. 

Gail is survived by two daughters, Kim Hickman and fiancé Raymond Hickerson of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Connie Chapin of Enid, Oklahoma; one son, Jeffrey Martin and wife Mandi of Webb City, Missouri; one sister, Melba Lord of Corpus Christi; nine grandchildren, Courtney Allen and husband Chris of Tulsa, Oklahoma,  Jessica Hickman of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Mike Steadman of Las Vegas, Nevada, Josh Steadman and wife Shelby of Pampa, Matt Carr and wife Adrienne of Kansas City, Missouri, Cameron, Alex, Kim and Skylar Martin all of Webb City, Missouri; 4 great grandsons, Michael Steadman, Kaleb Steadman, Grayson Carr and Rylan Carr; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, and eleven brothers and sisters.
