Gene "Papa" Gee

June 24, 1946 — June 9, 2019

Gene “Papa” Gee, 72, of Pampa went home on Sunday, June 9, 2019.

Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Dean Whaley, of Sunset International Bible Institute, and Scott Futrell, of Kentucky Avenue Church of Christ, officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Heights Cemetery in Lefors under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Gene was born June 24, 1946 in Pampa to Tom and Evelyn Gee.  He graduated from Lefors High School in 1963, where he was the salutatorian of his class.  After high school he received his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Christian College, his master’s from West Texas State University, and he continued his education toward his doctorate from Sol Ross University in Alpine.  Gene married Verneice Hatcher on October 18, 1968.  She preceded him in death on November 13, 2013.  He was an educator in the Panhandle area for over 27 years before he retired.  After retirement he operated a pilot car service for 4 years.  Gene was a lifelong believer and was a devout Church of Christ and has helped and ministered many people over the years.  When Gene was younger, he built and raced drag cars. He loved to collect anything with cars on it; especially NASCAR.  Through the years Gene would help the local volunteer fire department in different compacities. He enjoyed restoring old furniture and wood working.  Gene loved to study the Bible and share the gospel.  He loved his family dearly and was known as Papa to his grandchildren and many others in the community. Gene always had a smile and a laugh that was unforgettable.

Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Royce Gee; 2 sisters, Barbara Cullon and Glenna Sue Gee; son-in-law, Kevin Howe in 2016.  

Survivors include his son, David Gee of Wellman; daughter, Michella Howe of Lefors; son, James Gee and wife Jacque of Lefors; his beautiful lady, Donna Shipp of Pampa; 7 grandchildren, Courteney, Christina, Brittney, Jenna, Cody, Jade, and Nathan; and17 great grandchildren.
