Glenn “Gene” Curtis Barber, 71, of Amarillo, went to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 12, 2021.
Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, March 19, 2021 at the Abundant Life Fellowship Church in Wellington with Elder Herman Moore and Pastor Thomas, officiating. Burial will follow at North Fairview Cemetery in Wellington under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.
Gene was born on January 1, 1950 in Wellington to Allen and Girtie Lee Boyd Barber. He attended school in Wellington and graduated from Wellington High School in 1968. Gene moved in Amarillo in 1980 where he resided until his passing. He worked as a carpenter for Trook Cabinet Company for 25 years before leaving to work at the American Cabinet Company. Gene was currently “semi-retired” from his last job at Pioneer Mill Works Company. He enjoyed wood working and won several competitions. Gene was an active animal rights supporter. He rescued numerous cats, dogs, and rabbits. Gene even rescued a tortoise once. He was a fantastic artist and musician. Gene will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 4 siblings, Elizabeth Dickie, Florence Dyson, Claudie Barber, and Jimmie Lee Barber; 1 nephew, Michael Dean Hopkins; 1 niece, Erma Jean Barber; and his mother-in-law, Mary Ruth “Madea” Sterling.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Andrea Johnson and husband Sean Anthony “Tony” of Amarillo; 3 siblings, Robert Allen Barber of Phoenix, Arizona; Jeanette Barber and Gwendolyn Barber both of Amarillo; 2 grandchildren, Yasire “Yasi” Davis and Seandrea Johnson, and 4 more grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
