Gordon was born February 26, 1933 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Kenneth and Birdie Miller. He attended school in Tonkawa, OK before joining the Army in September of 1950. He was deployed to Japan for amphibious training for three months and was deployed to Korea for one year of combat. He received an Honorable Discharge on June 8, 1952. Gordon was extremely proud of his service to his country; however, he spoke little about actual events.

Gordon was a hard-worker and provided for his family first as a mechanic and later in the gas industry as a plant operator and field technician. He and Velda lived in Pampa for several years until job transfers took them to Bridgeport, TX, Vernal, UT and Mineral Wells, TX. He retired from Occidental Gas in 1992 and they returned to Pampa to live out their retirement years. The family enjoyed camping and fishing and spent many happy summers enjoying the outdoors. He was a longtime faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Frances Miller; 3 sisters, Marva Lee Lack, Lois Lack, and Gertrude Bishop.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Connie Johnson and husband Robert of Lubbock and Mary Tyler and husband Walter of Bryan; 4 sons, Gordon Miller and wife Terry of Plainview, Raymond Miller and wife Susan of Comanche, Johnny Miller and wife Jeanna of Pampa, and Mark Miller and wife Sandra of Bryan; sister, Cleta Coldiron of Loveland, Colorado; brother, Charles Miller and wife Mary of Pampa; sister-in-law, Margaret Tautfest of Red Rock, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Kenneth Willerton of Ponca City, Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
