Guy William Thompson, Sr., 84, of Pampa, passed peacefully from this earth on August 17, 2024, at his home in Pampa with his wife and daughter by his side.
Services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Briarwood Church with Pastor Jamisen Hancock, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Guy was born December 8, 1939 in the family farmhouse outside of Twitty, in Wheeler County to Curtis William Thompson and Helen Marie Lawrence Thompson. He moved to Pampa at a young age and attended Pampa schools. Guy served in the Texas National Guard from 1957 to 1963 rising to the rank of Specialist 4. On November 17, 1961, he married Sharon Sue Nabors in Pampa. For 42 years, from September 1959 to September 2001, he worked for The Cabot Corporation-Carbon Black Division. Guy and Sharon were the proud parents of two children: Guy William Thompson, Jr. (Billy) born in 1962, and Susan Michelle Thompson born in 1967.
Guy enjoyed raising Angus cattle with his son Billy, collecting guns and coins, and riding motorcycles. He loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed vacationing at Cabot Ranch and other places in Colorado. Guy, Sharon, and Billy were very fond of traveling to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs to watch Falcon football games. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #1381 in Pampa. He was known to be somewhat ornery from time to time, but he was a hard worker and deeply loved and supported his family. He and Sharon were married for 62 years, and during that time they lived in Pampa, near White Deer, and west of Mobeetie. He was a member of Briarwood Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Helen Thompson; his son, Billy Thompson; his sister, Elsie Jackson; his in-laws, Bill & Betty Nabors; and his grandson-in-law, Jonathan Taylor.
Guy will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon of the home; his daughter, Susan Furgason and husband Johnny of Pampa; his brother, Robert Thompson of Rock Springs, Wyoming; sisters-in-law, Brenda Graddy and husband Ed of Canadian, Peggy Ervin of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Margaret Thaxton and husband John of Pearland; three grandchildren, Mikala Taylor, Kolbi Linder and husband Ty, and Nathan Furgason and wife Bennett, all of Pampa; great-grandchildren, Aniston and Levi Linder, Scout, Eva Rhea, Penny, and Baby-on-the-Way Furgason, and JoLee Jane Taylor, all of Pampa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
