Harriet M. Hampton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025 at her home in Pampa.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with John Curry officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
There will be a reception immediately following the service next door to the funeral home at The Harbor Community Event Center.
Harriet was born August 3, 1925 in Marshall, Texas the middle child of Albert and Patty McPhail. She graduated from Marshall High School and went on to attend the University of Colorado where she graduated with a degree in business. Following graduation Harriet moved to Dallas and began working for American Airlines where she was a ticket agent and flight attendant for several years. On February 23, 1952, she married the love of her life, Dr. Raymond Hampton, in Marshall. They celebrated 68 years of marriage before he passed away on December 29, 2019. After completing his military service, they returned to Pampa in 1952 where they made their home and raised their three sons.
Harriet was active in the PTA at Austin Elementary School and served as President. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church. Harriet was also involved in the Top O’ Texas Medical Auxiliary along with being a volunteer at Pampa Regional Medical Center for many years.
Harriet was a true “lady”. She always carried herself with class and treated people with respect. She was a kind and gracious woman who enjoyed hosting memorable dinner parties for friends and family. An accomplished cook, you could always count on finding fresh baked cookies somewhere in the kitchen. She enjoyed playing bridge in her spare time and traveled extensively with Raymond all over the country as well as internationally.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Patty McPhail; her sister, Juliet Stallings; and her husband, Dr. Raymond Hampton.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. R. Moss Hampton and wife Denise, William M. Hampton and wife Sandra, and Dr. David M. Hampton and wife Jennifer. Harriet was known as “Gran” to her ten grandchildren, Claire DeVilder and husband C.J., Ann Marie Hampton, Coleman Hampton and wife Marianna, Hunter Hampton and wife Sydney, Michael Hampton and wife Carolyn, Conner Hampton, Hallie Hampton, Rachel Cocek and husband Adam. Charles Hampton and wife Shannon, and Hank Hampton; and ten great grandchildren. Her grandsons will be serving as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to thank Brenda Ruiz, Carolina Sanchez, Christina Matlock, Romelia Leal, and Kennye Pearson for their untiring aid and assistance during the last years of Harriett’s life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Lovett Memorial Library in Pampa or the charity of your choice.
