Helen Gray Wilson, 93, of Amarillo, formerly of Pampa, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020 in Amarillo.
Celebration of life services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Commissioned Pastor Nancy Ruff, pastor of First Presbyterian of Clarendon, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Wilson was born February 19, 1927 in Gainesville to David and Gertrude Barnett Gray. Helen graduated from Texas State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Library Science on June 2, 1948. Honoring her promise to her father, she married Michael Wilson, Jr. on June 3, 1948, the day after her graduation. He preceded her in death in 1996. Helen moved to Pampa in 1951 and was a homemaker and was the librarian at Pampa High School from 1965 until 1974. In 1976, she became the librarian at Pampa Middle School. Helen retired in 1989 after 26 years of service. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Pampa, the Chancel Choir, and the Mariners. Helen was active with the retired teachers, friends of the library, and enjoyed sewing and gardening. The family enjoyed camping, boating, and water skiing. Her loves were family, church, music, and books.
Helen was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Rains, in 1999.
Survivors include two daughters, C. Susan Ross of Amarillo and Peggy Leigh Jamerson of Willis; four grandchildren, Stephanie Jaye Ross of Amarillo, Stephen Jerome Ross and wife Savannah of Lubbock, Sarah Beth Jamerson and wife Cortni and David Michael Jamerson, all of Ralls; and four great grandchildren, Paris, Everett, Olivea, and Jewelie.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
