Hilda Duncan, 88, of Pampa passed away Tuesday March 6, 2018 in Pampa.
Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, March 9, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Clover Bailey, pastor, and Pastor Nancy Ruff, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Clarendon, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Duncan was born December 4, 1929 in Oklahoma City, OK to Harry and Jessie Burden; she married Ray Duncan on November 6, 1949 in Pampa, and has been his best friend and companion for over 68 years. They loved to go to the lake and go boating; she would drive the boat pulling Ray on skis.
Hilda was a gracious, kind, courageous, positive lady. She was the heart of their family and was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved her family and was keenly interested in what was happening in everyone’s lives. Hilda hand-made individualized Christmas stockings for each family member as more were added over the years and made sure to include wrapped gifts at Christmas for each grand-dog and grand-cat.
Hilda always loved beautiful music and had a great love of animals. She enjoyed so much her “visits” from Coco, her newest grand-puppy, during the last couple of months.
In her younger days, she greatly enjoyed growing flowers and gardening; there is something therapeutic about digging in the dirt. She also created beautiful crewel embroidery pieces. Later, as she began to have health problems, she took up beading and gave away her creations for the pleasure of others. Hilda didn’t watch much tv, but Monday evenings were reserved for “Antiques Roadshow” on PBS. The family knew not to call her during her show. When she became confined to a wheelchair the last few years, she still usually had a smile on her face; she was “just fine.” She told her family several times to “bloom where you’re planted.” Hilda became a voracious reader of history, biographies, and true stories of people and their connections to their pets, reading some 60+ books.
Hilda was a member of the Jaycettes, 20th Century Allegro, PEO, and First Presbyterian Church since 1950. She will be greatly missed. A special thanks to Dr. Kamnani, who saved her life on more than one occasion, and called Hilda “the come-back kid.” She was very fond of him. Also, thanks to Interim Hospice, especially Brenda. The family loved all of her caregivers: Jamie, Jana, Mari, Marie and especially Kandy for the love and compassion she showed Hilda.
Hilda is preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Tim White; brother and sister-in-law, Kirk and Jean Duncan.
Survivors include her husband, Ray of the home; two daughters, Gail Woodington and husband Ben of Pampa and Wendy White of Amarillo; son, Brian Duncan and wife Linda of Pampa; three grandsons, Chris Duncan and wife Katie of Round Rock, Jarrett Woodington and Jeffrey Woodington and wife Allison all of Amarillo; two granddaughters, Lisa Wheeler and husband Peter of Edmond, OK and Lori Johnson and husband Brad of Amarillo; and 7 great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to PAWS or charity of choice.
