Howard "Blackie" Adamson, Jr.

Howard “Blackie” Adamson, Jr., 93, of Amarillo, passed away peacefully at his home in Amarillo with his family by his side on Monday, September 16, 2024.

Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, September 20, 2024 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory. 

Howard was born February 10, 1931 in Sylamore, Arkansas to Velma and Howard Adamson, Sr. His family moved to Pampa in 1943, at the age of 14 he quit school and began working with his father in construction. Howard was an Army veteran stationed in Germany as Military Police. He was honorably discharged in August of 1952 and returned to Pampa to work for Cabot Corp. He retired from Cabot as a mechanic supervisor after 40 years of service. 

Howard was a member of Pampa Optimist Youth Club for many years. He helped build the little league parks and coached for several years. He loved fishing, dancing, woodworking, and going back to his hometown, Sylamore; always making a stop by Branson to see the shows. 

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Bobbie; the mother of his two sons; second wife, Mattie; sisters, Geneva Hull, Dorothy Pitman, and Inez Johnson.

Survivors include his wife Amy of the home; two sons, Edward Thomas Adamson and wife Beverly of Fritch and Ray “Pappy” Adamson of Pampa; grandchildren, Danny Warner of Pampa, Ray Adamson and wife Kerrie of Ft. Worth, Mary Lee Adamson of Canyon, Micah Adamson and wife Rebecca of Borger, April Couch and husband Darrell of Stinnett; stepdaughter, Sandra Rhoten and husband David of Amarillo and their sons, Joshua and Colton; four dear friends, Brandy Cherry of Dallas, Lisa Haller of Los Angelas, California, Jamie Tate of Grove, Oklahoma and Terrie Cochran of Skellytown; and numerous great grandchildren.
