Howard Musgrave

Howard Musgrave, 85, of Pampa, passed away on December 16, 2017 in Pampa. Celebration of Life services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Larry Taylor of Bible Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery with Masonic rites courtesy of Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF & AM, and flag presentation will be given by Pampa VFW Post #1657.  Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Howard was born on September 27, 1932 to Mary and Leander Musgrave in White Deer. As a young boy, his family moved to Pampa where he lived for a few short years and then his family moved to Hays, KS where he attended school until his freshman year. He then returned to Pampa, finished school, and graduated from Pampa High School. After graduating, he moved to Houston to attend school to become a certified watch maker. A time later, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1955 as a corporal. He returned to Pampa after the war where he pursued bowling full time and bowled professionally before hurting his hand. He later met the love of his life, Corene Waller, and they married on October 4, 1962 in Childress, and they enjoyed many years of marriage before she preceded him in death in 2001. Howard was an intelligent and focused man, and he took multiple night classes so he could graduate from West Texas University where he earned his BBA. He worked for Ingersoll Rand for over 32 years as an engineer and during his tenure he oversaw many projects. Howard was a community minded man who was a member of several organizations which included: the VFW, Pampa Chapter #65 Order of the Eastern Star, Moose Lodge, and El Paso Scottish Rite Consistory. He was a longtime member of the Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF & AM, and recently received his 60-year pin. Howard was a Baptist and a member of First Baptist Church. He worked in the pro shop at Hidden Hills Golf Course. He liked to stay active and he loved to golf and hang around the golf course whenever he could. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and by his two brothers, Earl Musgrave and Dewey Musgrave. Survivors include his sister, Jean Sperry of Pampa; his brother, Paul Musgrave of Amarillo; his step-daughter, Brenda Punches of Kearney, Nebraska; and two step-granddaughters, Toni Harvey of Kearney, Nebraska, and Kelly Spears of Austin; and other extended family. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
