Isabel Portillo, 75, of Pampa, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Jose Luis Rodriguez, an elder with the Jehovah's Witness, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Isabel was born on July 7, 1947, in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, to David and Ramona Portillo. She attended school in Juarez and spent much of her early years there. In the 1970s, she and her three children moved to Pampa. Her first job in Pampa was at a packing plant. She worked at the Lampliter Restaurant for a short time and then was a baker at Furr’s Cafeteria until her retirement.
During retirement, Isabel loved to be with family. She loved to travel all over to visit different relatives. She would also babysit her grandkids regularly. At home, Isabel was often outside planting and gardening. In 2017, she became a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Pampa. Isabel was a loving and caring person who will be missed by so many.
Isabel is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Maria Estrada and Rosa Martell; and two brothers, Mario Portillo and Blas Portillo.
She is survived by her three children, Francisco Apodaca and wife Estela, Reyna Mireles, and Marcos Apodaca and wife Mary, all of Pampa; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Ramon Portillo of Pampa; 4 sisters, Gloria DeLeon of Pampa, Guadalupe Sanchez and Blanca Perez, both of Roswell, New Mexico, and Silvia Portillo de Diaz of Juarez, CHH, Mexico; and numerous other extended family members.
