J T Hollingsworth 96, of Pampa, went to be with his Saviour on December 15, 2017 in Pampa. There are no services scheduled. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Hollingsworth was born July 10, 1921 in Erick, Oklahoma to Austin Henry and Goldie Opal Hollingsworth. J T graduated from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City in 1940. He was active on the diving team during his high school years. He moved to California with his family and lived in Bakersfield and San Francisco. He married Ruth Elizabeth Loy on October 30, 1948 in Pampa. He was unable to serve in the military so he joined the Merchant Marines and had many interesting adventures in the Pacific and Far East both during and after World War II. His stories about that time were legend. After the Merchant Marines, J T returned to Pampa with his wife Elizabeth whose nickname was "Dimples". He worked at a laundry owned by his parents and at the Celanese plant and in different oil field jobs. Eventually he became active in the hospitality business and owned several bars and clubs both in Amarillo and Pampa. He was a very colorful bartender. J T had an exuberant personality and lived a fun-filled and interesting life. His stories kept his family and the staff and residents at the nursing center highly entertained. He was known as "Clobber" to all his friends and he knew everyone in town. He was an avid golfer and was active as a golf pro at the Pampa Country Club in years past when his mother Goldie managed the club. He loved children though he never had any, and was a proud dog parent to several loyal dogs. J T was preceded in death by his father, Austin Hollingsworth on December 26, 1964; his wife, Elizabeth Hollingsworth on June 24, 1971; a sister, Melverta Fern Elkins on May 11, 1993; and his mother, Goldie Hollingsworth on December 15, 2005. J T had no children but is survived by his sister, Lovella Jones of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, close and loving nephews, Jerry Jones and wife Peggi Hudson, and Ronny Jones and wife Judy, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his loving niece, Debra Huff and husband Jason of Little Elm, Texas; an uncle, T W Hobbs of Sayre, Oklahoma; many great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
