James Floyd Gatlin, 89, of Mobeetie, passed away on December 13, 2019 in Pampa.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa with Rev. Thacker Haynes, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in McLean, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.
James was born on August 22, 1930 in McLean. He married Kathryn “Billie” Wall on October 16, 1948, and she preceded him in death in March of 1982. He served on the Mobeetie Volunteer Fire Department for many years and on the Lefors School Board during the 60’s. He married Doris Whaley on March 29, 2001. He worked as a farmer and a rancher for most of his life. On the rare occasions that he wasn’t working, you could find him hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
James was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Kathryn “Billie” Gatlin; his second wife, Doris Gatlin; and his parents.
He is survived by his 3 children, Jimmy Gatlin and wife Chrisa of Pampa, Kathy Orth and husband R. L. of Midland, and Sue Melear and husband Doug of Jasper; 2 stepdaughters, Evelyn Kincannon and husband Calvin of Mobeetie and Elaine Dennis and husband Tom of Cache, OK; 4 grandchildren, Shely Pickett, Justin Melear, Raelynne Glaesman, and Lindsey Orth; and 3 great-grandchildren, Carrie Glaesman, Aiden Glaesman, and Jimmy Melear.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Mobeetie Volunteer Fire Department.
