James “Jim” Young, 86, of Skellytown, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at his home in Skellytown.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Pampa with Pastor Steve Huckins, In the Garden Ministries Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Jim was born on July 17, 1938, in Borger to Harold Ambrose and Margaret Faye Jones Young. Jim married Shirley J. Hackney on September 24, 1958, Shirley and Jim were married for 66 happy years until his passing. Jim joined the Army right after high school and eventually became a paratrooper. After four years of active duty and four more years in reserve, he was honorably discharged in 1963. After being discharged from the Army, Jim worked on oil rigs as a roughneck and later became a truck driver. James retired in 2007 and spent most of his time watching western shows and reruns of Perry Mason.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Glora Faye Merideth; and his daughter, Cynthia Faye Cook.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Young; a son, James Young; son-in-law, Dennis Cook; five grandchildren, Cathleen Cook, Nathan Cook and wife Karla, Charissa LeFevre and Logan, Caleb Cook and wife Jamie Lynn, and Aaron Cook; and ten great-grandchildren, Dezarae Martinez, Alexis Martinez, Matthew Martinez, Makayla Cook, Mackenzie Cook, Maximus Cook, Maverick Cook, Clara LeFevre, Leon LeFevre, and Everly Faye Cook.
