James M. Alexander

James M. Alexander, 77, of Miami, passed away October 27, 2022, at home with his family by his side.

Celebration of life memorial services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, October 31, 2022, at the First Baptist Church of Miami with Brother Michael Davis, pastor, officiating, and Monty Wheeler and Doug Cates, assisting. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

James was born on September 15, 1945, in Olney to Iva and Helen Alexander. He grew up in Breckenridge. His family later came to Lefors where he graduated high school and that’s where he met the love of his life Marlene Cates. They later married on August 26, 1963, in Pampa. James got a job transfer with Pioneer to Miami in 1974 where he and Marlene have resided ever since.

James would eventually retire from Devon Energy after 43 years in the oil & gas industry. James was a member of the First Baptist Church and formerly served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Miami Masonic Lodge #805 for over 40 years. James loved the outdoors where he enjoyed water skiing and spending time at their cabin in Eagle Nest, NM. But what brought him the most pride and joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. He was known as Poppa to everyone. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his special grandmother, Johnnie Beatrice Noel; and his mother and father-in-law, Ruby and Alvin Cates.

His survivors include his wife, Marlene Alexander of the home; a daughter, Misty Bonjour and husband Monty of Amarillo; a son, Greg Alexander and wife Allison of Hinton, OK; four grandchildren, Blake Barton and wife Erica of Amarillo, Blaine Barton and wife Lyndsey of Little Elm, Brooke Harlan and husband Chance of Amarillo, and Olivia Grace Alexander of Rosenburg; five greatgrandchildren, Graham Barton, Parker Barton, Dottie Harlan, Darbie Harlan, and Dansby Harlan; brother-in-law, Doug Cates and wife Delpha of Pampa; niece, Daphne Dildy and husband Robbye of League City; nephew, Damian Cates and wife Elizabeth of Cordell, OK; and many cousins and extended family.
