James "Turkey" Standerfer

James “Turkey” Standerfer, 73, of Pampa, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 in Pampa.

Private graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 with a memorial service being held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

James was born on November 16, 1950 in McAlester, Oklahoma to Buddy and Dorothy O’Nesky Standerfer. He attended school in Spearman and graduated from Spearman Senior High School in the late 60’s. After graduation, James ran grocery and retail stores for a few years before working as a heavy equipment operator. He helped to dig the water run offs in Perryton. In the 1970’s, he started his career as a truck driver.

James married Debora Stone on October 13, 1973 in Perryton. The couple had three children, Jamie, Brandon, and Kenny. In 1990, they moved their family to Pampa where they made their home. When Debora’s health was starting to fail, James retired and stayed home to care for her. She passed away on March 9, 2001.

James was a faithful member of the Soldiers for Christ Fellowship in Skellytown. He enjoyed spending time with his church family and riding motorcycles. James also liked to tinker with cars until he was no longer able to then he would tell his son how to do it. However, he loved nothing more than his family.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Debora Standerfer; his parents, Buddy and Dorothy Standerfer; and one granddaughter, Lynnzy Standerfer.

He is survived by his three children, Jammie Standerfer of Pittsburg, Texas, and Brandon Standerfer and Kenny Standerfer and wife Stormy, all of Pampa; two sisters, Debbie Brown and husband Larry of Hartshorne, Oklahoma and Denise Downs and husband James of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Nikki Eagan, Terra Olvera, Ashton Styles, Erin Standerfer, and Addison Standerfer; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; an abundant church family; and his church sister, Katy Wilde.

Memorials may be sent to the Soldiers for Christ Fellowship, 500 Chamberlain St, Skellytown, Texas, 79080.
