James Winkleblack, 71, of Amarillo and formerly of Pampa, passed away, October 6, 2018 in Amarillo.
Celebration of Life services will be 2:00PM, Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Pampa with Rev. Mike Martin of South Georgia Baptist Church in Amarillo, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
James was born on May 18, 1947 in Pampa to Francis and Lola Winkleblack. James attended Pampa schools and graduated from the class of ’65. Shortly after graduating, he enrolled at West Texas University. After college, he returned to Pampa where he worked as a draftsman for PamTex. In 1971, James entered the oil & gas industry as a pipeliner, working for Texaco, and he later retired after 34 years of service. James met the love of his life, Pat Dalton, in the fall of ’65 and they later married on July 7, 1968. James was a lifetime member of both Top O' Texas Masonic Lodge #1381 and the Pampa Chapter #65 Order of the Eastern Star. James was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Pampa and after he moved to Amarillo, he became a member of South Georgia Baptist Church.
James was a man of many interests and was an active man who loved working with his hands. He liked the outdoors where enjoyed either fishing or hunting and he had a huge interest in antique cars. But one of the things he loved most was travelling with his wife, where they visited over 44 different states in the United States and Canada. James will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents; by a brother, Wendel Winkleblack, Sr., by a nephew, Doug Winkleblack; and by his father-in-law and mother-n-law, Paul and Geneva Dalton.
His survivors include his wife, Pat Winkleblack of the home, by his son, Thomas Winkleblack and wife Melissa of Argyle; by his daughter, Paula Winkleblack and partner Kaycee Hooper of Amarillo; by a granddaughter, Kyra Winkleblack of Canyon; by his brother-in-law, Bob Dalton and wife Joy of San Angelo; by a sister-in-law, Linda Winkleblack of Pampa; by his two uncles, Bill Winkleblack of Grenada, California and George Goin of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; by two nieces, Robyn Swift of San Angelo and Wendy Henderson and husband Mark of Midlothian; by three nephews, Wendel Winkleblack, Jr. and wife Cher of White Deer, Robert Dalton, Jr. and wife Toni of Clyde, and by Ryan Dalton of San Angelo; and also by several great-nieces and nephews and other extended family.
The family wants to express gratitude to AP Health & Palliative Care and the following staff, Kendra Adcock, Casey McAdams, Polly Espinosa, Jonathan Elmquist, and Angela Wallace for their loving care of James.
