Janie Gill

January 1, 1923 — January 10, 2019

Janie Gill, 96, of Miami, passed away January 10, 2019 in Miami.

Services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, January 13, 2019, at First Christian Church of Miami, with Rev. Richard Royal, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.

Mrs. Gill was born January 1, 1923 in Artesia, New Mexico, to Ted and Oregon Walker Addington. She had been a resident of Miami since 1925. Janie graduated from Miami High School in 1941 and attended Draughon’s School of Business and West Texas University. She married Randall Gill on March 3, 1944 in Pampa. He was the love of her life since third grade. He preceded her in death in 1985. Janie was a homemaker and gave her life to raising her three children, and then spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a devout member of First Christian Church in Miami and never missed a Sunday. And if you missed church, she would nonchalantly let you know about it. Janie was the most dedicated museum quilter, known to be the head of quality control by her friends. She possibly bribed high school basketball officials with her cream pies! Janie proudly just renewed her drivers license at 96, for another 3 years; no tickets on record, and it’s not because she didn’t speed! She enjoyed traveling, reading, watching sports, sewing, cooking, going out to eat, and going to the movies. She was known for her impeccable style and always being the best dressed. She was admired world wide for her spunk and gorgeous shoe, sock and jewelry collection. Janie will be greatly missed by all.

Janie was a member of Christian Women’s Fellowship, Child Study Club and on the board of directors for Roberts County Library.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Bean and husband Roy of Stinnett, and Kathy Thompson of Miami; a son, Ken Gill and wife Mary Ann of Miami; six grandchildren, Shannon Mace and husband John of Kennewick, Washington, Sheila Joy and husband Gery of Lubbock, Nancy Pardue and husband Brett of Weatherford, William Gill, Lindsay Gill, Shane Thompson and wife Lindy, all of Miami; twelve great grandchildren, Alex, Randall and Luke Joy, Kutter, Trevor and Fletcher Gill, Kennedy Gill, Haiden and Brylee Thompson, Garrett Mace, and Everlea and Sawyer Pardue; and numerous nieces and nephews. Janie was also preceded in death by a sister, Faye Tyler; and a brother, Paul Addington.
