Jeanne Marie Pharis Bailey, 88, of Athens and formerly of Miami, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021 in Athens.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Miami Cemetery with Rev. Rick Parnell, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Jeanne was born June 7, 1933 in her grandparent’s house in the Plainview community in Wheeler County to Guy and Beatrice Pharis. Her mother died when Jeanne was only 3 years old, so her grandmother and aunts help to raise her. Jeanne always said she grew up in a loving, Christian home. She graduated from McLean High School in 1951. While she was in high school, she worked at the local drug store in McLean, and always kept a mug in the freezer to make a root beer float for Charles Bailey. She later married him in July of 1951. After Charles returned from the Air Force, they made their home in Miami in 1962. While in Miami, she was a Girls Scout leader for many years and involved in First Baptist Church of Miami as junior high Sunday school director, sang in the church choir, and women’s missions’ group. When their children were younger, they enjoyed spending time at the lake, camping in the mountains, and traveling to all of their sporting events. The family also enjoyed their time gardening at the Bailey farm in McLean. When Jeanne moved to Pampa, she volunteered at Good Samaritans and Pampa Senior Citizens Center. She also was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church.
