Jerry R. Thompson, 74, of Skellytown, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023, in Skellytown.
A private family graveside will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Jerry was born on October 7, 1948, in Pampa, to Clint and June Thompson. He grew up in Shamrock, farming and ranching with his dad. In 1971, he joined the Navy and served until he was honorably discharged in 1977. After the Navy, Jerry met Janice Cordell. The two were married on March 15, 1978 in Wheeler. They lived in Lefors for a while but eventually moved to Skellytown in late 1979.
Early in Jerry’s career, he worked as a truck driver. Later on, he was an operator for Phillips 66 in Borger. He was last employed by Solvay in Borger and held the position of warehouse manager. Overall, he spent 33 years of his career in Borger, retiring in 2016. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed driving around town and visiting with old friends. He attended many rodeos and gun shows through the years. Jerry loved watching Westerns on TV and also enjoyed the time he spent with horses and cattle. Jerry will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Tommy Thompson and Daryl Danner.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Thompson; daughter, Amanda Enriquez; son, Jerry Thompson; stepson, Robert Peterman; granddaughter, Rheba Matteson; 5 additional grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Charles Thompson of Durant, Oklahoma and Reggie Thompson of Cynthiana, Kentucky.
