Gwyn was born April 26, 1924 in Childress, Texas to Georgia Crowson Johnson and O. A. Johnson, the first of three children. She grew up in Tell, Texas and at age 10 joined Tell Methodist Church on April 7, 1935. Gwyn graduated from Tell High School in 1941 and she attended West Texas State College (now West Texas A & M University) graduating with a BS in 1944 and an MA in 1948.
Gwyn taught school for 30 years, 25 of which were in Pampa. She retired in 1977 in Pampa. She married Orin Ray Hulsey of Edmond, OK at Tell, Texas on May 25, 1951. They had lived in Pampa since 1954 until the last 4 1/2 years when they moved to Amarillo and lived at Bristol Park Assisted Living and Memory Care.
Gwyn was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota Teacher’s Sorority, Retired Teachers Association and a life member of Texas State Teachers’ Association. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pampa and the Crusader’s Sunday School class.
She loved her family dearly and was known as Nan by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always showing pictures of her two grandchildren to everyone she knew. She enjoyed babysitting them and picking them up from school when they got older. After she had great grandchildren, she talked about them constantly and laughed at all of their funny stories.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Georgia and O. A. Johnson and her sister, Jerry Davis.
Survivors include her husband, Orin Hulsey of Amarillo; a daughter, Judy Hansen and husband Chris of Pampa; two grandchildren, Marci Stellman and husband Dr. Christopher of Edmond, OK and Ryan Hansen and wife Naomi of Austin; one brother, L.N.
